Same-Day Orthopedic Clinics begin Nov. 19 at MedWest-Harris

Sylva, NC—MedWest-Harris will  offer Same-Day Orthopedic Clinics every Monday afternoon beginning Nov. 19. Sylva Orthopedic Associates, which is on the second floor of MedWest-Harris, will  take appointment times for the clinics from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays, with physician assistants seeing patients from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

The clinics will be used mostly to address athletic injuries, to provide continued follow-up care to patients who visited the emergency department or an Urgent Care Center and to give exams for medical issues related to orthopedic problems that may have occurred over the weekend. 

The clinics are being held to make medical evaluations available to people in the community who have orthopedic injuries that have gone untreated or are continually recurring. Robin Pope and Hannah Hill, who are both physician assistants, will lead the clinics with their medical expertise and an overall desire to help those patients who may not have been able to be treated previously. 

The clinics will operate on appointment-only schedules and appointments must be made the morning of the clinic. This is standard procedure to ensure that all appropriate medical records can be sent from patients’ regular doctors to Sylva Orthopedic Associates. The availability of medical records will help in the treatment of and better serving of patients’ needs.   

Some patients will not be eligible for the same-day appointments due to the type or seriousness of their injury. Those who require a surgeon or who need to allow the appropriate time for swelling to go down, will have an appointment scheduled for them for later in the week so they can be seen by a physician or physician assistant. 

The cost of the clinic will be the co-pay set by insurance providers. If follow-up appointments are necessary, patients will be given the appropriate contacts and information for the physician of their choice.

Sylva Orthopaedic Associates is comprised of four surgeons and two physician assistants. The practice has been serving Sylva and its surrounding communities since 1980.
