Cardiopulmonary Services


Cardiopulmonary Services offers services for several medical specialties.

Pulmonary care services include: aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, chest physiotherapy, emergency resuscitation, arterial blood gases, and pulmonary function testing.

Cardiology services include: ECGs, cardiac stress testing, echocardiograms, stress echos, transesophageal echos, and cardiac event monitoring.

Neurology services include: EEGs and polysomnograph studies.

Cardiopulmonary Services is staffed 24-hours per day and diagnostics are routinely offered Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m through 4:30 p.m.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Services


The Cardiac Rehabilitation Services at WestCare Health System are designed to help participants learn to modify and control risk factors and achieve and maintain optimal health through physical exercise and education.
The primary goal of this service is to enable each individual to achieve a personal level of physical, psychological, vocational, and social health through three phases of rehabilitation: In-patient; Out-patient; and Maintenance.

Participants are instructed on these behavior modifications:
  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Stress Management
  • Smoking Cessation
Educational topics include:
  • Challenge of Recovery
  • Pulse Count and Target Heart Rate
  • Angina and Common Arrhythmias
  • Medications
  • Heart Healthy Diet
  • Risk Factors
  • Stress Management / Relaxation
  • Home Exercise
Benefits to the Participant are:
  • Improved exercise tolerance
  • Improved cholesterol levels
  • Improved quality of life
  • Confidence to perform routine daily activities
  • Increased understanding of heart disease and its' management
  • Improved self-esteem, and control

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services


The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services at WestCare Health System are designed to educate and physically recondition participants.

The primary goal of this service is to enable each individual to achieve a personal level of physical, psychological, vocational, and social health through three phases of rehabilitation: In-patient; Out-patient; and Maintenance.

 Services are offered for the following diagnoses:
  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
    • Emphysema
    • Chronic Bronchitis 
  • Reactive Airway Disease (Asthma)
  • Lung Transplantation (before and after)
  • Occupational / Environmental Disease (asbestos, fume, vapor exposure)
Educational topics include:
  • Management of Lung Disease
  • Nutrition and the Lungs
  • Warning signs of Infection
  • Medications
  • Stress Management / Relaxation
  • Home Exercise
  • Proper Breathing Techniques
Benefits to the Participant are:
  • Improved quality of life
  • Decreased number of hospital stays
  • Confidence to perform routine daily activities
  • Reduced respiratory symptoms (shortness of breath)

Respiratory Care Services


Respiratory Care Services provide a broad spectrum of respiratory care to patients of all ages. Staffed with registered/certified respiratory therapists and technicians, the department provides comprehensive pulmonary diagnostic techniques in conjunction with routine and critical therapeutic procedures for those with cardiopulmonary disorders.

As part of the multitude of responsibilities, the staff assesses and cares for respiratory patients, administers oxygen and respiratory treatments, and provides respiratory care in emergencies. The Respiratory staff works as a team with the physicians, PA's, nurses, and other Hospital staff in providing the best respiratory care possible.

Respiratory care services include:
  • Pulmonary Function Test Studies
  • Nebulizer Therapy
  • Aerosol Therapy
  • Mechanical Ventilation
  • Arterial Blood Gas Sampling
  • Bronchoscopies

Our non-invasive Cardiology Services provide for the diagnosis and monitoring of heart disease, on both an inpatient and an outpatient basis. The department utilizes state-of-the-art technology, licensed and certified technologists and supplies prompt results.
